Get notifications on your phone or computer
How to turn on LockLedger notifications for a device, which events send one (tickets, portal requests, announcements and Site Alerts), what the lock screen shows, and why they are best effort and never your only record.
LockLedger can send a notification to your phone or computer the moment something needs you, without the app being open. It is a small pop-up, the same kind other apps send. You turn it on for each device you want it on, and you can turn it off again whenever you like.
What sends a notification
- A ticket is assigned to you. The notification shows the ticket number and its priority. Tapping it opens your Tickets.
- A new portal request needs review (Admins and Managers). The notification shows the equipment and the site, and starts with
Line Down:when the request says the line is down. Tapping it opens Requests to Review. - Someone sends an announcement or a Site Alert. The notification shows the title and the start of the message, and tapping it opens the message in LockLedger. A Site Alert (or a reminder about one) always sends a notification to every device where you turned notifications on. See Send announcements and Site Alerts.
Those are the only three. Everything else, such as PM reminders, still arrives by email only.
Turn it on
- 1
Open Settings on the device
Open
Settings(the gear icon in the header) on the phone or computer you want the notifications on, and find theNotifications on this devicecard. - 2
Turn it on
Press
Turn on notifications on this device. Your phone or browser asks whether to allow notifications. ChooseAllow. - 3
Send a test
Press
Send a test notification. It should appear within a few seconds. If it doesn't, see the notes on Focus and blocked notifications below.
Each device is separate. Turn it on again on every phone or computer you want it on. Turning it off on one does not touch the others.
On an iPhone or iPad
Apple only allows notifications from an installed web app, not from Safari. Install LockLedger to your Home Screen first (see Install LockLedger on your phone or computer), open it from its icon, sign in, and then turn notifications on from Settings. In Safari the card tells you to install first.
On a computer or an Android phone
Use Chrome, signed in to LockLedger. The installed app is not required here. We have tested Chrome on a computer and the installed iPhone app. Other current browsers may work too, and the card tells you if yours can't.
Choose email, device notifications, or both
Under Notifications on the Settings screen, Ticket Assigned, Announcements (and Portal Requests, for Admins and Managers) each have four choices:
- Email and device notifications. You get both. This is the starting choice for a new account.
- Email only. No notification on your devices, even if you have turned one on.
- Device notifications only. No email for that event, just the notification on each device you turned on. If no device is turned on, you get nothing, and the Settings screen tells you so.
- Neither. No email and no notification. The ticket or request is still there in LockLedger.
Turning on a device does not change your email choice, and the choice does not turn a device on. You still turn each device on from its own Settings card. PM Reminders stay email-only. For Announcements, a new account starts on Device notifications only.
Site Alerts ignore these choices
A Site Alert reaches you by email and on every device where notifications are turned on, whatever you chose above, because it is meant for things you must not miss. Only a device that is turned off, or never turned on, will not get the notification.
Think before choosing device only
A notification is best effort. If your phone is silenced, out of signal, or the device is turned off in Settings, you will not see it, and with email off there is no second chance. Keep email on for anything you cannot afford to miss.
What shows on a locked screen
Anyone can glance at a lock screen, so the text is short on purpose. It never includes the description of a request, the name of the person who reported it, or their contact details. Open the app to see the full request.
What to expect
- Notifications are best effort. They usually arrive within seconds, but your phone or computer decides when to show one.
- Focus, Do Not Disturb, low battery modes and per-app notification settings can delay or silence them. If you rely on them, check those settings for LockLedger.
- They are not an emergency alert system, and a Site Alert is not either. For anything urgent, use your plant's normal way of reaching people as well.
- The email and the ticket in LockLedger are the record. A missed notification does not mean the work was missed.
- Signing out of LockLedger turns notifications off for that device. Turn them on again after you sign back in.
Turn it off or fix a blocked one
On the same Settings card, press Turn off on this device. Nothing is lost, and you can turn it on again any time.
If the card says notifications are blocked, you chose Don't allow earlier and only you can undo that. In the browser, open its site settings for lockledger.app and allow notifications. On an iPhone, open the iPhone's Settings, then Notifications, then LockLedger. Then reload LockLedger and try again.
