Required photos for lockout points
Make a photo, or a stated reason, required for every isolation point when equipment is locked, see what a tech does when they can't take a photo, and how the LOTO Log and its PDF show it.
A tech can already attach a photo to each isolation point when they lock a machine. This setting makes that photo expected: with it on, every point needs a photo, or a reason the tech gives for not taking one. It is off for every site until an Admin turns it on.
1. Turn it on for a site (Admin)
This video sets up a machine first. Turning on required photos is the last part, from 1:43. The setting belongs to one site, so you can switch it on at one plant and leave another alone. Only an Admin can change it. A Manager can see it but not edit it. It applies to the next lock at that site: locks already in place, and the records of past locks, are not changed. A machine with no isolation points defined is not affected.
- 1
Open Sites and choose the site
From the home screen, open
Sitesand pick the site in the list. - 2
Press Edit and set the switch to Yes
Press
Edit, then setRequire photos when locking equipmenttoYes. - 3
Press Submit
The setting is saved for that site.
2. What a tech does
In the Lock Equipment dialog, the tech verifies each isolation point as usual. With the setting on, each verified point shows Photo required. The lock button stays off, with the line Add a photo or choose a reason for each point., until every point has one or the other.
- 1
Add a photo
Tap the camera on the point. The phone's own camera opens, and the point shows a check mark once a photo is attached.
- 2
Or say why you can't
Tap
Can't take a photoon the point and chooseCamera not working,Cannot reach the point safely, orOther, where you type your own reason of 3 to 200 characters. - 3
The reason shows on the point
It appears in amber as
No photo:and the reason, andChangelets you pick a different one. - 4
Tap the lock button
When every point has a photo or a reason, the button turns on. Tap it.
- A point has a photo or a reason, never both. Taking a photo replaces a reason that was chosen earlier, and choosing a reason replaces a photo.
- Un-verifying a point clears its photo and its reason.
- A machine with no isolation points defined can still take the single optional photo of the applied lock, as before.
If the setting changes while a tech has the dialog open
If an Admin switches the setting on while a tech already has the dialog open, the lock is refused and the tech sees This site now requires photos. Reopen Lock Equipment and add a photo or a reason for each point. Nothing is locked until they do.
3. When a photo doesn't upload
Photos are shrunk on the phone before they are sent, and a failed upload is tried again automatically. If a photo still can't be sent, for example on a bad connection, the lock goes on anyway. The tech sees a warning naming which points had a photo that did not upload. LockLedger does not leave a machine unlocked because a photo did not make it.
4. What the LOTO Log and its PDF show
On the LOTO Log, each isolation point shows its photo as a small picture you can open. A point without a photo says which of these applies: No photo. Reason: followed by the reason the tech gave, Photo attempted, upload failed, or a plain No photo for a lock made when the site did not require one.
The Export PDF file puts the same facts on each point's line in its own shorter words: photo when there is one, photo attempted, upload failed, or no photo, reason: and the reason. A point with no photo and no reason prints nothing extra. Each point also keeps whether its site required a photo at the moment of the lock, so switching the setting off later does not rewrite what happened. These records cannot be edited after the lock is made.
This records what the phone reported, not proof
Photo attempted means the tech's phone said a photo was taken. LockLedger does not check that a photo is genuine, or that it was taken at that moment, and a person could pick an older picture from their phone's gallery. Treat the setting as a way to make a photo or an honest reason part of every lock, not as verification, and not as a compliance claim. Photos at unlock, and adding a photo after the lock is made, are not part of this feature.
